Poses

  • Before drawing, scribble a ground plane to know how the subject will be grounded.
  • When drawing poses, try not to fixate on details. For examples, for the eyes, I use circles or bars. For the hands, I use squares.
  • A common exercise you will see is having students spend no more than 30 seconds on capturing a pose. This places less emphasis on details, and more on capturing the flow of a pose.
  • The term “flow” is often used when drawing figures. Long story short, the term flow boils down to adding contrast to your drawing. You can do this by shaking up the way you draw lines and shapes (adjusting the angles, using bent or curved lines, etc).
